Latin for "prayer" - Orans:

The orans (Latin for “prayer”) position is an ancient posture assumed while praying with arms outstretched, hands open and cupped. The gesture of open lifted hands while praying occurs throughout scripture (see Exodus 9.29, 33; 1 Kings 8.22, 38; Psalms 63.4, 88.10, 134.2, 141.2 and 1 Timothy 2.8). In the catacombs beneath Rome there are numerous images on the walls of people praying in the orans position. Join in, if you like.
