Blue Christmas at UniLu
Thursday, December 21, 2023, 7pm

We don't always feel like celebrating at this time of year. Grief, pain, worry, anxiety, illness, loneliness, addiction, depression, family drama, stress, despair, exile, and/or several other things can make the Christmas season painful for us. And, if everyone else seems to be celebrating, we can feel even lonelier with our true feelings.

If this has been a rough year, or a rough season, for you or for someone you know, join us for Blue Christmas on December 21 at 7:00 pm. We'll sing, pray, light candles, and receive God in Word and Sacrament. This will be a time to be together, to name for ourselves and before God what pains us.

This will not be a joyful service, but it will be a real and hopeful one. You, the real you, are welcome here. And from this darkest night, we will be moving toward the light.

Our church sits in an ancestral homeland of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. Christian colonizers forced their ancestors into missions and seized their land. We grieve the loss of indigenous lives, the destruction of indigenous culture, and the commodification of indigenous land. God calls us to a right relationship with this land and its past, present, and future caretakers. Muwekma neighbors are a sovereign people. May we live in solidarity with them and repair Creation with all.
