Community Sunday Evenings

UniLu is a community that is open to all, at all times. But, we want to make a special invitation to you, our neighbors, to join us on Sunday evenings for Community Nights for various kinds of fun and fellowship. Following is a schedule of what Sunday evenings look like around here - sometimes it's Game Night, sometimes it's Hobby Night, sometimes it's Storytelling Night; there will almost always be food, and all are welcome. (Note: In Lent, our worship services move to Sunday evenings - we will adjust this schedule for those 6 Sundays plus Easter.)

Hobby Night - First Sunday of the Month

The people of UniLu have many talents, interests, hobbies, fields of study, and expertises. Once a month, someone takes the lead and talks about something they are interested in, maybe showing pictures, demonstrating a skill, or telling tales of their adventures. Plan to join us on the First Sunday of Every Month for Hobby Night! Click the link above for the schedule.

Game Night - Second Sunday of the Month

A couple of our members have hundreds (literally hundreds) of games to share! We gather on the second Sunday of the month for Game Night - board games, card games, word games, kids' games, strategy games, all kinds of games! You are welcome to bring a game, a snack, and/or a friend, but you are also welcome to just bring yourself. It's a lot of fun; Join us at 6:00 for an opening game, followed by a break for dinner and then dividing into groups for more games! (During Covidtide, we meet online, provide our own dinner, but still play games.)

Storytelling Night - Third Sunday of the Month

In regular times, we gather for a put-luck snacky-dinner and an evening of storytelling. During Covidtide, we meet online, provide our own dinner, but still tell stories. You can read all about it on our Storytelling Night page, but the basic format is that we gather at 6:00 (7:00 on the Sundays in Lent) to eat and tell stories. You are welcome to just listen if you don't want to tell a story.

Travelogue Night - Fourth Sunday of the Month

The travels of UniLu people cover all seven continents! On the 4th Sunday of each month, we'll gather (in person and online) to learn about someone's travels, through photos, artifacts, stories, food, or whatever.  Check out the Travelogue Night page for more information.

Movie Night - Possibly Returning in late 2021

We spread out on the UniLu Commons (or inside if it's too light or too cold or too smokey) for Movie Night: Movies for the Whole Family! Sometimes, with advance notice on this page, we might watch grown-up movies that inspire some discussion, some action, or some reflection. With the popcorn machine fired up and surround-sound is installed on the lawn, you're welcome to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and have a picnic, if you like.

Jazz Vespers - Possibly Returning in late-2021

We have been having a great time with jazz and prayer on the first Sunday of the month! We gather at 5:30 for a 30-minute service, followed by some light pot-luck refreshments and about an hour-long jam session. Bring your instruments or just stay around to listen to the jam session. If you'd like to play with the ensemble for a service, contact one of the musicians afterward for some details on the next service.  (NOTE: DURING LENT, our Sunday Eucharist is at 5:30 pm, so Jazz Vespers will be preempted until after Easter.)

Our church sits in an ancestral homeland of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. Christian colonizers forced their ancestors into missions and seized their land. We grieve the loss of indigenous lives, the destruction of indigenous culture, and the commodification of indigenous land. God calls us to a right relationship with this land and its past, present, and future caretakers. Muwekma neighbors are a sovereign people. May we live in solidarity with them and repair Creation with all.
