Community Evenings, Sundays at UniLu
UniLu is a community that is open to all, at all times. But, we want to make a special invitation to you, our neighbors, to join us on Sunday evenings for Community Nights for various kinds of fun and fellowship. Following is a schedule of what Sunday evenings will look like around here - sometimes it's Game Night, sometimes it's Movie Night, sometimes it's Art as Healing Prayer Night; there will almost always be food, and all are welcome. (Note: In Lent, our worship services move to Sunday evenings - we will adjust this schedule for those 6 Sundays plus Easter.)
Jazz Vespers - First Sunday of the Month
We have been having a great time with jazz and prayer on the first Sunday of the month! We gather at 5:30 for a 30-minute service, followed by some light pot-luck refreshments and about an hour-long jam session. Bring your instruments or just stay around to listen to the jam session. If you'd like to play with the ensemble for a service, contact one of the musicians afterward for some details on the next service.
Storytelling Night - Second Sunday of the Month
The Young Adults at UniLu gather on the second Sunday of the month for a put-luck snacky-dinner and an evening of storytelling. You can read all about it on our Storytelling Night page, but the basic format is that we gather at 6 to eat and mingle, start telling stories at 6:45, and wrap up around 7:30. You are welcome to just listen if you don't want to tell a story. You'll find prompts on the Storytelling Night page.
Game Night - Third Sunday of the Month
A couple of our members have hundreds (literally hundreds) of games to share! We gather on the third Sunday of the month for Game Night - board games, card games, word games, kids' games, strategy games, all kinds of games! You are welcome to bring a game, a snack, and/or a friend, but you are also welcome to just bring yourself. It's a lot of fun; Join us at 4:30 for an opening game, followed by a break for dinner and then dividing into groups for more games!
Art as Prayer - Fourth Sunday of the Month
Our Creator gave us all the gift of creating, too. Perhaps the fear that many of us feel when the blank canvas, or page, or difficult pattern we doubt we can do, stares back at us from our lap or easel or shop table, is a hint that it was no piece of cake for God, either. Perhaps every time we decide "I'm going in" - despite this wrenching fear of failure and emptiness and foolishness - we are taking God's hand. Behind every completed project, be it a quilt or a drawing or a chessboard or any other solid object, is not just work-hours but also Spirit. Bring your Spirit and a project, or find a project with us, as we enjoy a couple hours of making together, from 7 - 9 pm in the Fireside Room on 4th Sundays.
Movie Night -
We spread out on the UniLu Commons (or inside if it's too light or too cold or too smokey) for Movie Night: Movies for the Whole Family! Sometimes, with advance notice on this page, we might watch grown-up movies that inspire some discussion, some action, or some reflection. With the popcorn machine fired up and surround-sound is installed on the lawn, you're welcome to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and have a picnic, if you like.
